Red-backed Salamander
Habitat
Red-backed salamanders are terrestrial, woodland salamanders found mainly in deciduous forests, but can be found in evergreen and mixed forest as long as a moist environment exists. Being lungless, they must remain moist and will generally not be found in dry areas. They have a preference for very moist areas and high cover density. Cover items such as logs and rocks provide high moisture areas although they will spend the majority of their time in deep leaf litter.
